1. Introduction
“Food is the paramount necessity of the people” is a proverb in China. Agriculture is the foundation of national economy, and sustainable development of agriculture is the key for the sustainable development of whole society.
With rapid progress of agricultural science and technology, economic effectiveness of agriculture is constantly improved, but the overall benefits are still not ideal. Excessive use of agricultural resources and various agricultural environmental pollution have threatened the healthy development of agriculture, which will eventually affect human benefit in the future.
Therefore, we need to strengthen protection and development of agricultural and rural environment, and to build resource-conserving green agriculture, and to establish agricultural and rural ecological environment based on efficient use of resources and protection of ecological environment. All of these are the necessary prerequisites to realize the harmony and unity between human and nature, and are the fundamental guarantee to realize the strategic goal of agricultural sustainable development.
In this view, the International Symposium on Agricultural and Rural Environment Protection and Sustainable Development (AREP), is scheduled to be held on September 20-22, 2019 in Tianjin, China, in conjunction with the 8th National Symposium on Agricultural Environmental Science. The theme of AREP is “Agricultural and Rural Environment Protection and Sustainable Development”.
